Share files as a link on Mac with Filebin

Share file link: Mac workflow with Filebin
To share files as a link on Mac, Yuzu Drag can upload a selection to Filebin and copy a temporary link. Drag the files, open Actions, and drop on FILEBIN. Files go to filebin.net and are public by link: anyone with the link can access and delete them. Use it for suitable temporary handoffs, not confidential files or permanent storage.
Shortcut note: These steps use the default drag shortcuts. While holding the files, briefly press and release ⌘ for Tools; tap it again for Actions. ⇧ opens Convert. If you changed the shortcuts in Yuzu, use your configured keys instead.
A copied link is not proof that the whole selection uploaded successfully. Check the upload result and the files available at the link before sending it to someone else.
Consider macOS sharing first
If you are sending to another nearby Apple device, Finder's Share menu and AirDrop may solve the job without creating a hosted public link. Select the files, choose the sharing option, pick the intended recipient, and confirm that they receive the transfer. AirDrop serves a different purpose from a link that a remote recipient can open later.
For a remote handoff, your existing account-based sharing service may be more appropriate. Open that service's normal interface, upload the file, and set recipient access deliberately. Do not choose a public link just because it is shorter to send if the material requires named-person access.
macOS can help you select and hand files to an app, but it does not make arbitrary files publicly downloadable by itself. A link-sharing workflow needs a hosting service, and the service's access and retention rules become part of your decision.
Decide whether Filebin fits the handoff
Filebin is temporary public-by-link storage. A recipient does not need the original Finder path, but anyone else who receives or discovers the link can also access the bin. Do not include secrets, customer records, private identity documents, or anything whose exposure would require an access-control response.
Yuzu's Filebin settings describe bins as usually expiring after about a week. Treat that as a service-dependent expectation, not a promised retention period. Availability, expiry, and service limits can change. Keep the source files and tell the recipient when the transfer needs attention.
Before uploading a group, inspect its contents. A selection assembled from several folders may include an unintended file with a similar name. A temporary link can make that mistake easy to distribute widely, so the useful privacy check happens before the upload.
Check the upload settings
Yuzu has two Filebin settings: Remove location from photos and Ask before uploading. Both are enabled by default on a new configuration, but review your actual settings rather than assuming they have not changed.
Remove location from photos strips photo metadata, including GPS, from a temporary copy. The original stays unchanged. Unsupported photo formats are not uploaded while this option is enabled. This is useful protection against unintentionally including location metadata, but it does not make the visible contents anonymous. Faces, addresses, and identifying details inside the image can remain visible.
Ask before uploading gives you a confirmation step. Leave it enabled if you want an explicit pause before sending files to the external service. Disabling a confirmation does not change Filebin's public-link access model.
Upload through the Actions wheel
- Install Yuzu from the download page and keep it running.
- Select the intended files in Finder and begin dragging.
- Tap ⌘ for Tools, then tap ⌘ again for Actions. A mixed-kind selection can open directly in Actions.
- Drop on the FILEBIN wedge.
- Review and accept the confirmation if your settings request it.
- Wait for the upload result and check the completed and failed items.
- Open the resulting link, verify its contents, then send it to the intended recipient.
The wheel also uses ⇧ for Convert. FILEBIN is an Action, not a conversion format. Keep the drag active until you release over the intended choice.
When the upload finishes with completed files, Yuzu can copy the bin link to the clipboard. A partly successful selection can still have a usable link. Tell the recipient what is actually available rather than assuming the existence of a link means the entire batch succeeded.
A sensible first handoff
Test with a harmless file that you can recognize easily. Complete the upload, open the link, and compare what the page contains with your original selection. Then check that the copied link is the one you intend to send, especially if you have uploaded several groups during the same session.
The local sources remain on your Mac. The remote copies are a separate responsibility: removing an item from your Finder folder does not remove an uploaded copy from the service. Likewise, a recipient downloading a file can keep their own copy after the temporary bin disappears.
If a file fails, read its status before retrying. The cause may be a service restriction, a connection problem, or a preparation issue such as an unsupported photo format with location removal enabled. Do not bypass a privacy setting without considering what extra data would then be sent.
Use the actions hub to understand the difference between local file handling and sharing. The guides index covers other ways to prepare a handoff. For confidential material or ongoing access management, choose a service with the recipient controls your situation requires.

FAQ
Is a Filebin link private?
No. Files are uploaded to filebin.net and are public by link. Anyone with the link can access and delete them. Use another method for sensitive material.
Does the upload change my original photos?
The location-removal option prepares a temporary copy. It leaves the original in place, and unsupported photo formats are not uploaded while that option is enabled.
